Manufacturing software for Australian manufacturers, built around how you actually work

Itsy Bytesy is a Brisbane software studio that builds custom manufacturing software for Australian businesses. We build quoting and CPQ systems, 3D product configurators, pricing engines, ERP and Xero integrations, and production tracking tools. Our background is in engineering and manufacturing. We build the internal tools that sit behind the login screen and run the business day to day, not marketing websites.

If your quotes live in a spreadsheet only one person understands, or your team re-keys the same job into three systems, we can help.

The problems we see in Australian manufacturing businesses

Most manufacturers we talk to already have software. The trouble is that it doesn't fit how they quote, build and deliver. The same three problems come up again and again.

Quoting runs on spreadsheets and memory

The pricing logic for a configured product sits in a workbook that has grown for years. One or two people know which cells not to touch. Quotes take hours, revisions drift out of step, and custom additions get missed or mispriced. When those people are on leave, quoting slows down or stops.

Quotes are too slow for the customer

Buyers want a price and a picture quickly. If a quote takes days because someone has to check options, look up costs and format a document by hand, the job often goes to whoever answers first.

Your systems don't talk to each other

Accounts are in Xero, jobs are in a project tool, leads are in a CRM, and production is tracked somewhere else. Staff carry information between them by hand. That costs hours every week. It also creates real risk: work starts before a payment clears, or a paid job sits idle because nobody updated its status.

What we build

Custom software for manufacturers: what we build

Each of these can stand on its own or connect to the others. Most clients start with the one that costs them the most time or money.

Job quoting software and CPQ for manufacturers

A configure, price, quote (CPQ) system walks your sales team or distributors through a product step by step. It filters out options that don't work together, calculates the price in real time, and produces a branded proposal ready to send. Your pricing rules, discounts and approvals live in one place instead of in someone's head. Full CPQ builds start from $12,000.

3D product configurators

A product configurator lets customers build and see their own version of your product in the browser before they ask for a price. Every option they choose is captured, so the enquiry that reaches your sales team already carries the specification.

Pricing engines

If your pricing depends on dimensions, materials, options, regions, currency or customer contract rates, a pricing engine turns those rules into tested code. It gives the same answer every time, whoever runs the quote.

ERP integration and Xero integrations

We connect the systems you already use so data moves on its own. Typical examples are accounting to project management, configurator to CRM, and quote to order. We've built integrations with Xero, ClickUp, Pipedrive, Odoo, Katana and DriveWorks, using secure, industry-standard authentication such as OAuth 2.0.

Engineering drawing and CAD automation

Producing sales and engineering drawings by hand for every configured order is slow and easy to get wrong. We automate it: specifications from a quote or configurator drive the drawings directly, including through CAD automation tools such as DriveWorks. A typical result is turning a 4-hour manual process into a 4-minute automated one.

Production and inventory tracking

These are dashboards and tools that show where each job sits, what stock you hold and when to reorder. They're built around your workflow and fed by your existing data, so you don't have to buy a whole new system to get them.

Software for fabricators and job shops

Job shops quote one-off and short-run work all day, and generic quoting tools rarely handle it well. Custom quoting and job tracking can follow how you actually estimate material, labour and machine time.

We know this from building one. Itsy Bytesy built the platform and website for Partspark, an on-demand sheet metal manufacturer in Brisbane. You upload a DXF and get an instant price, and the design is checked for manufacturing problems before it reaches the factory floor. See Partspark below.

Fractional CTO for manufacturers

Some businesses don't need a build yet. They need someone technical in their corner. As a fractional CTO, we review your architecture, help choose a technology stack, assess vendors and plan how AI fits in, before you commit to spending.

Why custom software instead of another off-the-shelf ERP?

Off-the-shelf ERP and MRP systems are good at the standard parts of running a manufacturer: accounts, stock, purchasing and payroll. Where they usually struggle is the part that makes your business different, such as how you configure, price and quote your own products.

We don't usually suggest ripping out your ERP. We suggest building the layer your ERP doesn't cover, and connecting it to what you already have.

  • It fits your process. The software follows your quoting and production workflow, rather than you bending your workflow to fit a template.
  • You own everything. The code, the infrastructure and the data are yours. There's no proprietary lock-in and no paying to edit your own templates.
  • It's built to hand over. Documentation, tests and clean architecture mean your in-house team, or whoever comes next, can pick it up without us.
  • You pay for what you need. We ship the version that solves your most expensive problem first, then improve it based on real use.

Off-the-shelf is often the right answer, and we'll say so when it is. If a standard product covers 90% of what you need, buy it, and talk to us about connecting it to everything else.

Process

How we work

01.

Discovery.

On a free call we talk about what you want and why you want it: your goals, your bottlenecks and how the software fits into daily operations.

02.

Planning and fixed scope.

We break the system into individual features, like Lego bricks, each with clear acceptance criteria and tests. You approve a feature list and a price before we write any code. There's no open-ended hourly billing.

03.

Build, with you watching.

You get access to the latest working build on the web or on your device as features land, not just an email saying "we made some updates".

04.

Launch and support.

We deploy, train your team and fix any bugs free of charge for at least six months. Our monthly plans include one or two years of guaranteed support.

Every line of code is written in-house by our Brisbane team. We don't offshore or subcontract the build. We work with manufacturers across Australia, in person in Brisbane or remotely, and our east-coast hours overlap with clients from Perth to Auckland.

CPQ system for Vertical Engineering (Brisbane, 2025)

Vertical Engineering had relied on an overseas SaaS CPQ system that was costly, limited and error-prone. Sales consultants spent hours configuring quotes, and the lack of version control caused pricing inconsistencies between revisions. We replaced it with a cloud-based CPQ web portal:

  • a step-by-step lift configurator that filters out incompatible options
  • real-time pricing with currency conversion for imported lifts, plus customer-specific discounts and contract rates
  • branded supply proposals in Word or PDF, from templates Vertical Engineering can edit themselves
  • role-based permissions for sales consultants, regional managers and distributors, with every action logged for audit
  • migration of more than 4,000 historical quotes and customer records from the legacy system

Build Your Lift: 3D sales configurator for Aussie Lifts (Brisbane, 2024)

This is an interactive 3D configurator where customers design a lift fit-out in the browser. They choose from more than 200 materials, preview the lighting and see a dimensionally accurate model. Customers can request a quote directly from the configurator, and every selected option is sent to Pipedrive CRM through a custom integration.

Xero to ClickUp integration for Vertical Engineering (Brisbane, 2025)

Project managers had been checking Xero for payments by hand before updating job status in ClickUp. That meant work sometimes started before payment, and paid jobs sometimes waited. The integration syncs paid invoices to ClickUp tasks automatically. It has processed hundreds of invoices and removed hours of manual checking each week.

Partspark: instant-quote sheet metal manufacturing platform (Brisbane)

Partspark is an on-demand sheet metal manufacturing service in Brisbane. Its parts are laser cut and CNC folded, and it ships Australia-wide. Itsy Bytesy built the Partspark platform and website:

  • instant quotes from an uploaded DXF or SVG file, with no special software or CAD experience needed
  • a stocked material library of mild steel, aluminium and stainless steel from 0.9 mm to 10 mm, sourced from Australian suppliers, with the price updating as soon as the customer changes material, grade or thickness
  • bulk discounts that start from as few as two parts and apply across every part in an order cut from the same stock, not only identical parts
  • design-for-manufacturing checks at upload that flag risks such as warping, floating elements, impossible bends and holes too close to a bend line, and show how to fix them
  • real-time order updates as each order moves through the factory, plus live data at the time of ordering for accurate lead-time estimates

Partspark's site also describes a web portal built so Aussie Lifts can order custom stainless steel lift nameplates in bulk from a Google Sheet.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about manufacturing software in Australia

Custom manufacturing software is built for one manufacturer's own processes rather than sold as a general package. It usually covers what off-the-shelf ERP does poorly: configuring, pricing and quoting your products, connecting your systems, and tracking jobs your way. Itsy Bytesy builds this kind of software for Australian manufacturers from Brisbane.

At Itsy Bytesy, a full CPQ (configure, price, quote) system starts from $12,000. Smaller pieces cost less: a single automation or integration starts from $499 as a fixed-price snippet. Every project is quoted at a fixed price against an agreed feature list before work begins.

A single automation can take a few days. A quoting or CPQ system is a custom web application, and those typically take 4 to 16 weeks, depending on complexity. We ship the most valuable part first, so your team can start using it before the whole system is finished.

Usually, build around it. Off-the-shelf ERP and MRP systems handle accounts, stock and purchasing well. Custom software is best used for the parts that make your business different, such as quoting, configuration and pricing, and connected to your ERP so data flows both ways.

Itsy Bytesy has built integrations with Xero, ClickUp, Pipedrive, Odoo, Katana and DriveWorks. We also work with REST and GraphQL APIs and legacy on-premise SQL databases, so if a system has an API or a database we can access, we can generally connect it.

Yes. You own the code, the infrastructure and the data, with no proprietary lock-in. Everything is documented and tested, so your own team or another developer can take it over.
